Washington Presidential Primary

March 10, 2020

Voters in Washington will cast their ballots on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 in the first Democratic presidential primary election that will allocate delegates to a Democratic National Convention.

Ballots must be deposited in a dropbox or at an elections office no later than 8:00 pm on March 10 to be counted. Ballots may also be mailed (postage paid) for tabulation (in which case they must be postmarked by March 10, 2020 to be counted.)

Voters are reminded that for delegates to be allocated to a particular candidate, the candidate must receive at least 15% of the vote in a congressional district or statewide.

As a result, it may make sense for voters to cast their ballots after the results of the "Super Tuesday" (March 3, 2020) primary elections are known.

While the presidential primary will allocate delegates to the national convention, caucuses will still be used by the state party to select the individuals filling the delegate slots. In the 3rd legislative district, the initial caucus process will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2020.
